Upgraded to WordPress 1.5

I just upgraded my blog from WordPress 1.2 to 1.5. As expected, the actual upgrade was very smooth, and it really didn’t take longer than a few minutes. In the next few days, I’ll need to play with WordPress’s new theme mechanism to customize the design of my blog. I tried a bunch of themes (there are a lot of 1.5-compatible themes already, many of them very nice), but none of them were usable without at least a little bit of tweaking (for example to insert my logo at the right place, customize colors to match, etc....

iPod: first impressions

I received my iPod on Wednesday and wanted to briefly share my first impressions (mind you, I have only used it for about 2 days now, and I haven’t really had a chance to load it up yet). The iPod is a very nice gadget. It is extremely well made and has a very intuitive user interface. My 60GB version should have enough space to store my entire mp3 collection, as well as the remaining CDs that I haven’t had a chance to rip to mp3 yet....

iPod

I finally gave in and bought an iPod, kind of as a belated birthday present to myself… Most of my colleagues have one, and I guess I was feeling left out. :) I think my timing was pretty good, as Apple just restructured the pricing for their numerous iPod models. In particular, the regular 40GB model that I probably would have bought if I had bought my iPod a few weeks ago, has been phased out and replaced with the 30GB and 60GB iPod Photo models....

Sorry, Texas

While I’ve been pretty successful in suppressing comment spam, I still seem to have some trouble with trackback spam. I believe there are some decent WordPress solutions out there now, but I haven’t really had a chance to play with them. In the mean time, I decided to start filtering out all comments that contain the word Texas, as I’ve been getting a lot of spam for Texas Poker and Texas Hold’em, and for some reason Wordpress (at least my version) seems to be unable to recognize the word hold’em as a spam word… If you’re from Texas or need to comment on Texas for one reason or another, I apologize in advance....

Virus Attack

Argh… My wife caught a virus on her laptop. It looks like it came in using some IE exploit, and the fact that the latest Windows security updates were not installed probably didn’t help… I’ve installed a better virus scanner and hope that I can still fix everything without having to reinstall Windows. If everything goes well, I’ll immediately install Firefox and have my wife switch from IE to this instead....
